Week at a Glance ~ March 10-14

Once again the nice, yet windy weekend, will be giving way to a wet and possibly snowy start to the week. Our field is a bit of a muddy mess right now and we appreciate families who are sending their students with boots and an extra set of clothes just in case!

We are continuing our March for the Veterans food drive. We are encouraging families to donate non-perishable food items as well as personal hygiene items between now and spring break. The needs of our veterans are year round, and we are hoping we can make a difference to their lives in some small way. We had hoped to finalize our collection efforts with the in-person conferences at the end of March, however that will no longer be the case so any items you can send with your child are greatly appreciated.

By now you will have heard that our March parent-teacher conferences are moving online. As per CBE directive, all in-school evening activities have been cancelled for the duration of the labour unrest. Later this week we will be sending out notification on how to sign up for online conferences. Teachers will be using the TEAMS platform for conferences and in some rare circumstances may be reaching out by phone. They will be connecting with families later this week to ensure the needs of all families are met (i.e. interpreter services, IPP meetings).

This past week our students engaged in an awesome learning opportunity called “Experience Metis” where they created various art forms. After Spring Break, students will be participating in a dance residency with Sound Kreations. We are grateful to our CPS School Council who have helped reduce the cost of these activities for families through their fundraising events. The cost of the activities not covered by School Council have been added to your MyCBE account. We would like remind families to log into their account and pay outstanding fees as soon as possible as unpaid fees eventually do move to collections.

School Council would like to remind families that they are hosting their parent information evening this Wednesday March 12 from 6:30-7:30 pm. Featured speaker, Andrew Dutcher, MD will be sharing information regarding children and technology in his talk entitled “Managing Screen Time to Help Your Child Grow”. Please see the attached flyer for more details and login information for this Zoom meeting.

At our February School Council meeting, school administration shared information related to our school development plan and school fees. Parents and guardians are invited to review the information and are encouraged to complete a quick survey related to this work. We value your input and want to have as many people as possible provide feedback through this very important engagement. The survey remains open until Friday March 21st at noon.

Important dates this week include:

March 14 – Holi

March 14 – Pi Day

In support of Pi Day Fashion Friday this week encourages students to wear an outfit inspired by a mathematician or your favourite math concept.

Have a great week!
