School Access

Students are expected to enter and to exit the school using their designated doors. Students waiting to be picked up by parents and/or siblings should be waiting in the office. Exterior entrance/exits will be locked after morning and noon classes’ commencement for the safety and security of our students. Parents, please use the front doors to enter the school during the school day and always check in at the school office.

Arrival at School

Please ensure that your children are arriving at school no earlier than 8:53 AM, as there is no supervision on the playground until that time. If your child arrives late in the morning or after lunch they must check into the office before going to class. Prompt arrivals are encouraged as part of developing good school habits.

Indoor Lunch Hour

Indoor activities are provided for students by the lunchroom supervisors.

Playground Supervision

Supervision on the playground is provided at 8:53 AM, 15 minutes prior to the start of the school day and at recess and lunchtime. For the safety of students, it is important that they don’t arrive prior to 8:53 AM as no supervisors are outside. There is no supervision after school and parents are responsible to supervise their children if they stay at the playground or school grounds.

Crisis and Emergency Procedures

Please notify us immediately of any changes to the any contact information.

The Emergency Response Plan (ERP) at Citadel Park School is designed to keep students safe and keep parents informed in the event of an emergency. ERP procedures are reviewed regularly and follow appropriate school board regulations and provincial or federal legislation. Contact information provided by parents is used to create fan-out lists which would be the main form of communication in the event of an emergency.

Fan-out lists are created for several groups including classrooms and students registered in the lunchroom. In the event of an emergency, school staff would first ensure student safety and then begin the process of contacting parents if necessary. If there is a serious health problem or family crisis that may affect your child at school, please make sure the office is aware of the situation so that we may handle these matters sensitively and with understanding.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.

Video Surveillance Technology

The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act section 4. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.

Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.

For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
