Hello CPS Families,

Did you know there are fewer than 50 schools days left this year? And yet…still so much to do!

Did you also know that this coming week is support staff appreciation week with Wednesday being ‘Administrative Assistant’ day? At Citadel Park School we are so fortunate to have such an amazing group of support staff who work very hard every day in support of student learning:

Facility Operations

  • Mr. Romeo our fantastic facility operator shoveling snow (it’s been quite a year!), keeping our school warm/cool and ensuring we are operating safely.
  • Ms. Izha who you would only see in the evening, who works diligently to keep our rooms and areas clean.

Education and English as an Additional Language Assistants

  • Ms. Buonomo, Ms. Biberdorff, Ms. Fisher, Ms. Pitonak, Ms. Hafeez and Ms. Andy are supporting students throughout the grades. They are always willing to assist and we are so grateful for their kindness and expertise in their respective areas.

Lunchroom Supervisors

  • These are the folks who ensure your children eat their lunch and enjoy their time outside on the playground. This is when our students are most active, so these staff members really have their work cut out for them! Thank you to Ms. Ahmed, Ms. Amaneshewa, Ms. Asefzadeh, Ms. Atif, Ms. Jayasinghe, Ms. Lau and Ms. Slatvystka. They are an awesome team!

Learning Commons

  • Ms. Kruger is our Library Assistant who has been ever so patient with an added classroom in the Learning Commons space this year. Not only does she support our students in finding great books, she also is the reason we host our Book Fair! No matter how many times a day she is asked about “Dogman” books, she always answers with a smile!

Office Administration

  • The support staff you are likely most familiar with are Ms. van der Walt and Ms. Talerico. These two amazing individuals keep our school running. While they are our ‘triage’ centre and as the ‘band aid and ice people’ to the students, they are everything to us. We couldn’t do what we do without them!

To all our CPS support staff – THANK YOU!

Speaking of thank you – a shout out to Ms. Wedel and our CPS School Council and Parent Association. This group of dedicated volunteers makes school dances and movies possible. We were so pleased to see families spring flinging’ on Thursday evening! Congratulations to the students who won door prizes!

One of the highlights for students every year is participation in ‘Mission Impossible’ as part of our physical education and well-being classes. Ms. Harvey, with the help of Ms. Bates-Church and Ms. Setchell set up a great course for students on Friday afternoon. We can’t wait to see the students manage the obstacle course! For this week of physical education classes, please have students dress accordingly – avoid loose clothing, dresses or jewelry and ensure long hair is tied back. While being out and around the school we continually remind students to tie their shoe laces. If your child does not yet know how, we encourage them to practice and be ready for safe movement which will see them climbing, sliding, balancing and maneuvering through obstacles this week. Safety first!

Tomorrow, Monday April 22, 2024 is Earth Day. Due to the gym being set up for Mission Impossible, our grade 3 team will be hosting an Earth Day assembly next week. More details will follow in next week’s WAAG. A great conversation to have as a family: ‘What are we doing to protect the Earth? What is one small thing we could do as a family to celebrate and take care of our earth for future generations? We would love to have your students share their thoughts as part of our talking circles this week!

This is the time of year where we remind families to check for outstanding fees in Power School. Many fees have been added (i.e. field trips, recorders) and it is helpful to have those fees covered off prior to year end. No child will be denied access to extracurricular activities and as such, families are urged to reach out to Ms. Edwards should they have concerns or questions related to financial support.

In support of Earth Day this week, Fashion Friday will be 'earth colours’.
