Finally, some warmer weather! Time to get outside and enjoy all those winter activities you may have been putting on hold as a family! Warmer weather also brings increased snow melt! We once again encourage students to have rain/snow pants each day, as well as a change of clothes packed in their backpacks including an extra pair of socks. This Wednesday February 26 is pink shirt day, an important day to spread the word about anti-bullying. Our grade 4 students will be presenting during the assembly which will begin at 1:30pm. We will have limited audience seating to accommodate families of grade 4 students. Other dates of significance this week include:
Last week you would have received a message from our Chief Superintendent outlining the processes in place while our CUPE union staff engage in strike action. We would like to remind families of the following:
To clarify, cleaning operations will be performed after school hours each night, which will address high touch point cleaning, including bathrooms as well as emptying garbage bins. In an effort to reduce the amount of garbage at school, we will be having students return all waste (food and packaging) home each day. We are taking a ‘pack in, pack out’ approach. This new process will have the added benefit for families of reviewing what their child is eating and/or not eating throughout the day. We hope that this opportunity may also help reduce food waste. Many schools have had this plan in place since the pandemic and we believe now is a good time to engage in this waste reduction opportunity as well. For any questions/information regarding this labour action, please visit the CBE website. This is a reminder that there is no school for students on Friday February 28th as this is a professional development day. We will be continuing our school development plan inquiry into effective vocabulary instruction in literacy, numeracy and physical education and well-being. Speaking of our school development plan, we were grateful to have had the opportunity to share our work with members of CPS school council last week. This is an annual requirement of engaging with our public regarding our ongoing work related to our SDP and school fees. Part of the engagement process means collecting feedback from our families. We urge all parents/guardians to take a few minutes (5) and complete the survey which can be found at the link below. Your feedback is important to us and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on our CPS plan as well as our school fees. And speaking of fees…as we approach March, we would also like to remind families to log into their MyCBE account as soon as possible and pay any outstanding fees. Should you have questions about the fees, please contact Ms. Talerico in our school office at 403-777-8063. Fees currently posted include field trips, residencies as well as bussing and noon supervision. Last week, our grade 4 students completed City Hall School and our grade 5’s headed off to StoryBook Theatre. This week we are excited for our grade 3 students who are heading to the Calgary Zoo! School Council is inviting all parents/guardians to mark their calendars for this year’s virtual parent information night being held Wednesday March 12 @6:30 pm. This year’s presentation, “Managing Screen Time to Help your Kids Grow” will explore questions such as “Are screens ruining your child?” and “How much is too much?”. Save the date! Have a great week! Enjoy the warmer weather! The Admin Team |
