Our famous Calgary chinooks look like they will dominate the weather this week. What a change from last week when we started back with -20 degree mornings! In recognizing the upcoming thawing, we are asking families to please send an extra set of clothing (i.e. pants, socks) in their child’s backpack as wet snow and mud are likely. Online registration opens tomorrow for students entering Kindergarten for the 26-27 school year. Children who will turn 5 on or before December 31, 2026 are eligible to attend school beginning in September. For more detailed information on kindergarten programming in the CBE, families are encouraged to visit the CBE website. Registration also opens for students entering grade 1 who live in the communities of Arbour Lake and Citadel. As Citadel Park School has a “closed” school status, we are unable to accept students residing outside these two communities. While registration will now be ongoing, we encourage families to register as soon as possible as this information supports our planning and staffing for next year. Our CPS School Council and Parent Association will host their monthly meeting this Wednesday January 14 at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be a hybrid format. For those unable to join in person, please connect via the TEAMS link below. Every parent/guardian who has a student attending CPS is a member of council and welcome at the meeting. Meeting ID: 277 285 162 102 74 Passcode: oM6QS7t4 Speaking of council and the parent association, a reminder that emails have been sent regarding signing up for Fun Lunch and popcorn days through Healthy Hunger. If you have questions regarding your child’s progress, please connect with your child’s teacher. A reminder that report cards are viewable only through your MyCBE account and are no longer printed and sent home. CPS has a commitment this year to furthering our understanding of Indigenous ways of being, doing, knowing and belonging through place-based learning experiences and task design that connect to students lived experiences and environments. As part of this ongoing work, we are pleased to be participating in an Indigenous experience called Ani to pisi which supports the notion that we are all interconnected. “The visual representation of Ani to pisi is a spiderweb ‘which speaks to the interrelatedness and interconnectedness’ of society.” (Elder Roy Bear Chief). Throughout the coming months, staff and students will be participating in a number of sessions with students from Mount Royal University which will culminate in our version of a spider web, created outdoors this spring. We look forward to continuing to build our understanding of others and learning more about the ways in which we are connected to each other.
