Wow! That was one windy week! Fashion Friday’s ‘windswept look’ was certainly easy to achieve! 😊
Our logo merchandise is arriving this week. If you ordered CPS hoodies or t-shirts, items will be sent home with your child later this week.
Did you know that this weekly message is just one of the many ways that we communicate with families? Other methods of gathering information related to teaching, learning and our school community include the Citadel Park School website and our CPS council Instagram @citadelparkparent. Additionally, grades and classrooms across our school have adopted a form of communication with families that work for the students in that grade level. For instance, in the younger grades, teachers may send home a weekly message to families advising of upcoming important information. For students in the older grades, teachers have provided information on how to access Google classrooms and may or may not send a weekly message. In grade 5, students write monthly letters to share the learning that has occurred over the previous four weeks. While report cards are forthcoming in February, if at any time you have questions about your child’s learning, we encourage you to contact your child’s teacher. For a list of updated emails, please see attached. If you have questions about school events, please stay connected to council meetings and minutes. Any other questions, please direct them to our office staff or via email at Citadel@cbe.ab.ca

During our professional development time last Friday, teachers worked with students from Mount Royal University (MRU) to further explore our upcoming Ani to Pisi work in support of education throughout reconciliaction. Ani to Pisi is a Blackfoot creation story about interconnectedness which uses the enactment of the spiderweb to describe how vibrations (celebrations or disturbances) in one part of the web, impact the entire web. It symbolizes that all beings and systems are connected. This spring, with the support of an elder and our colleagues at MRU, we will enact the spider web to represent our shared responsibility in creating a sense of belonging to support well-being for our entire CPS community. Once we finalize dates and times, we hope to extend invites to families to join us as we physically demonstrate our Truth and Reconciliation Commitment.
Registration for next school year opened last week and will be ongoing into the future. If you know of a family whose child will be entering kindergarten or grade 1 next year, please encourage them to register online as soon as possible. We begin budget planning in February and it is helpful to have updated enrolment numbers as we enter that process. For families of students returning to us who live in Citadel or Arbour Lake, your child’s registration will automatically be rolled over for the coming year – there is nothing required of you at this time. For families residing outside our catchment area, it is important that you connect with your designated school to inform them of your intent to register. As CPS is in a ‘closed’ school status, we are unable to accept students outside of our designated boundaries. If you have any questions about enrolment, please contact our office staff by phone at 403-777-8063 ext 0 during office hours.
Are you a parent/guardian with young children in our school? Do you anticipate having a child(ren) in our building in 2031? Why you ask? Well, that is the 25th anniversary of the opening of CPS! And while that seems like a long way away, the reality is that by that time, our current CPS playground will have reached its anticipated life cycle. Our current CPS School Council and Parent Association are being proactive and beginning to explore what this means for the next generation of CPS students. Please stay tuned for more information in upcoming messages about how parents/guardians with young children will be needed to help/support the building of a new play structure. What an exciting opportunity that lies ahead!
It’s National Thesaurus Day today! Children are never too young to understand that in the English language a thesaurus is a tool that helps you find synonyms (words that mean the same thing) and antonyms (words that mean the opposite) to improve your vocabulary. A strong vocabulary supports oral and written language development which is our current School Development Plan goal. An expanded vocabulary allows children to express ideas more precisely, avoid repetition and add variety to their written work. So go ahead, flip through that old tattered yellowed thesaurus or for the techie, show students the online version of a thesaurus- find and delight in the learning of new words!
To celebrate words, Fashion Friday this week will be to dress as your favourite emotion! If you are unsure what that could look like, ask your child(ren) about our "Little Spot of Feelings" work related to emotions vocabulary!
Have a great week!
