As messaged last week, Ms. Talerico will be moving on to a new position in the CBE effective next week and we wish her all the best. Her last day will be this Friday. We are pleased to share that Ms. Danielle van der Walt will be our new administrative assistant effective Monday February 2. We hope to have the vacated office assistant position filled in the coming weeks.

Given a series of events this week, we would like to remind families about pick up and drop off routines.

  • The bus loop is off limits until after 9:00 am. This week we had a late bus and several vehicles parked in the bus loop when the bus arrived. This caused the students to be even later as the bus had to wait for cars to move before students could disembark.
  • Entry through ‘any door’ is only applicable during cold entry days – when the temperature is below -20. On these days we have school personnel inside at entrances to support young children getting to classrooms.
  • When your child is late parents/guardians must come into the office to sign in their child. Students should not be entering through doors that are not their assigned doors except on identified cold days.
  • Cars should never enter the staff parking lot. The entry/exit to this lot is also a ‘no parking zone’ with clear signage.
  • The ‘hug and go’ zone is meant for families dropping off -cars should not be parked in this area along the curb.

These rules are in place for the safety of all students. We appreciate those who continuously follow the rules. As the person who has to enforce the rules, it is never enjoyable to begin or end my day with being yelled at, cursed at or argued with over parking, traffic or entry doors. Please just follow the rules.

Upcoming Important Dates:

Families across Calgary are invited to join the Calgary Board of Education in celebrating Family Literacy Week from January 26 to February 2, to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities. Tuesday January 27 is Family Literacy day, please visit the CBE website for more information about activities to do with children.

The Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy will begin February 6. These games offer plenty of opportunities to support children in their learning across all subject areas, from physical education and well-being to science. Teachers are looking forward to embedding ties to the Olympic Games in student learning throughout the coming weeks. The legacy of the games remains a pivotal part of Calgary’s history. Canada Olympic Park will be hosting family friendly activities over the Family Day long weekend. For more information visit: https://olympic.ca/fanfest/

CPS School Council would like to remind families of the upcoming movie night this Thursday. Please watch for more information coming in a message later tonight or tomorrow.

A reminder that fees are now due for the current school year. Please log into your MyCBE account to pay fees. If you have questions, please contact our office staff at 403-777-8063 ext 0.

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year is ongoing. There is nothing for families to do if your K-4 child is remaining at CPS for next year – registration is automatically rolled over. For students in grade 5 headed to Arbour Lake School for grade 6, registration is completed by CPS staff in collaboration with Arbour Lake School. If you know your child will not be attending either of these schools next year, please contact our school office so we can re-direct registrations accordingly.

Our weather will see a gradual warm up this week. Please have students dress for the changing temperatures. Freeze/thaw cycles will be prevalent so sidewalks and our playground areas may be slippery.

Have a great week.
