Happy New Year! We hope everyone enjoyed a restful and relaxing break!
The new year brings some staffing changes to Citadel Park School. We would like to welcome some new staff as well as welcome back current staff as they embark on new roles.
- Welcome to Ms. Thompson who will be teaching grade 5 in room 10.
- Ms. Edmunds, one of our Learning Leaders, will be moving into a resource role in the afternoons to support students across the school. We welcome Ms. Fraser who will be teaching science, social studies and physical education and well-being to students in room 14.
- Ms. Pritchard, who taught in room 10, will now be teaching grade 1 in room 6 until June 2026 to cover Ms. Kapeller’s maternity leave.
Starting Monday January 12, 2026, kindergarten registration will open for the 2026-27 school year. For children to be eligible to register and attend kindergarten next school year, they must turn five years old on or before December 31, 2026. Families with students designated to CPS but who attended elsewhere for kindergarten are also encouraged to enroll as soon as possible for grade 1. While registration for kindergarten and grade 1 is ongoing after next Monday, we do urge all families to register early. Having an accurate count of new students enables us to plan accordingly for the number of classrooms and the subsequent staffing required. Should you have any questions about registering your child, please contact the school office at 403-777-8063 ext. 0. For more detailed information on how to register online and what is required, please visit the CBE website:
https://www.cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Pages/Countdown-to-Kindergarten-Learning-Starts-Here.aspx
For families who registered with us for kindergarten and who reside outside of the communities of Arbour Lake and Citadel, it will be important for you to connect with your designated school to register for grade 1. Due to current enrolment trends, CPS is unable to accept non-designated students in grades 1-5.
Important Update for Bussing Students
Due to the recent watermain break on 16 Ave NW, there may be late buses for our students at Citadel Park School. This is because our bus routes are partnered with schools in Bowness – we are the second run in the morning and afternoon after the drivers complete bus runs for TB Riley School. Families should have received a message from CBE Transportation advising of possible delays. The CBE knows that unexpected travel disruptions can be stressful for families preparing for the return to classes, so here is some information and resources to help you plan your journeys.
Be Prepared
In light of these disruptions and the potential for extended wait times, please review the following preparedness tips from the CBE Weather Advisory page with your children:
- Back-up Plan: Have a back-up childcare or transportation plan in place in case of significant delays.
- Do Not Leave Children Alone: Never leave your child alone at a bus stop; ensure they are supervised until the bus arrives.
- Dress for Conditions: There may be longer waits at bus stops. Ensure children are dressed for the current weather conditions.
- Instructions: Give your child clear instructions about what to do if the bus does not show up.
Please note that the windchill tomorrow morning is anticipated to be in the -20’s! At school, we are unable to anticipate bus delays and for how long we may be impacted. It is important that families of bus students monitor delays online daily until the situation is rectified. Our transportation provider is Southland Transportation and updates will be posted on MyBusStop App (login required) and MySchoolBusMonitor . We ask for support more than ever if you know your child will not be riding the bus home. Please contact the school at 403-777-8063 ext 0 or online at Citadel@cbe.ab.ca as soon as you are aware so that we can ensure safety of all students.
This month, all students in kindergarten to grade 3 will be participating in provincial assessments in literacy and numeracy. For more detailed information regarding these assessments, please visit the Alberta Education website .
We would like to remind families that due to the labour disruption this past fall, report cards will now be shared at the end of February 2026.
