Happy New Year! Welcome to 2025! We hope you all enjoyed a restful and relaxing break with plenty of time to be outside and with family. The ‘warm up’ has come just in time for the return to school! Please ensure that students are dressed for the weather both for play and learning outside. Starting Monday, January 13, 2025, kindergarten registration will be open for the 2025-26 school year. For children to be eligible to register and attend kindergarten next school year, they must turn five years old on or before December 31, 2025. Families with students designated to CPS but who attended elsewhere for kindergarten are also encouraged to enrol as soon as possible for grade 1. While registration for kindergarten and grade 1 is ongoing after next Monday, we do urge all families to register early. Having an accurate count of new students enables us to plan accordingly for the number of classrooms and the subsequent staffing required. Should you have any questions about registering your child, please contact the school office at 403-777-8063 ext. 0. For more detailed information on how to register and what is required, please visit the CBE website: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Pages/Get-Ready-Get-Set-Kindergarten.aspx For families who registered with us for kindergarten and who reside outside of the communities of Arbour Lake and Citadel, it will be important for you to connect with your designated school to register for grade 1. Due to current enrolment trends, CPS is unable to accept non-designated students in grades 1-5. Beginning Monday, we welcome Ms. Galvan who will be assuming responsibility for our afternoon kindergarten class. Ms. Galvan was a practicum student at Citadel Park School and has been a frequent substitute within our building. She is very familiar with our students and staff and will be a great addition to our kindergarten team. January is a busy month for students and staff. All students in kindergarten to grade 3 will be participating in provincial assessments in literacy and numeracy throughout the middle two weeks of January. For more detailed information regarding these assessments, please see the information sheet attached to this email. Understanding-Universal-Screeners.pdf Additionally, report cards will be available to parents online at the end of the month. All report cards will be accessible through your child’s MyCBE account. More details to follow in the coming weeks. Other special dates within January and this first week include: January – Tamil Heritage Month January 1 – New Year’s Day January 4 – National Ribbon Skirt Day and World Braille Day January 6 – Epiphany January 7 – Orthodox Christmas January 9 – Popcorn Day at CPS We would like to remind families that if your child(ren) will be away for an extended absence (greater than 1 week) to please contact the office and obtain an extended absence form.
