What a beautiful start to March! We hope you had a chance to get outside and enjoy some sunshine! The warm weather combined with anticipated precipitation this week means our fields remain very muddy. As mentioned last week, we do strongly encourage students to have a spare pair of pants and socks in their backpack as slips, trips and falls in the mud are not uncommon at this time of year. Being prepared means fewer interruptions for families and for learning!
Thank you to all students for adhering to the 'garbage in/garbage out' requests. We have seen a significant reduction in waste this week. We appreciate everyone's efforts to keep the school clean during the current labour disruption.
We are excited to have another Indigenous learning opportunity this week at CPS hosted by Experience Metis. During classes this week, our grade K-3 students will be involved in creating fish scale art while our grade 4 and 5 students will be engaged in finger weaving. The group is focused on:
“…restoring an authentic Indigenous connection with ourselves and our ancestors by revitalizing interest in Métis culture, lifeways, and community through knowledge sharing, learning, and connection with the land.”
All students will participate in this learning opportunity which is being partially funded by our School Council Parent Association. Thank you again to our council for their ongoing support of extracurricular activities. The remaining amount is being covered by fees, now posted in your child's MyCBE account.
Speaking of fees, we want to thank families who have logged into their MyCBE account to pay outstanding fees. There are a number of fees currently posted. Unpaid fees will eventually be sent to collections so we encourage payment of fees as soon as possible as we look to the end of our school year. We encourage anyone who has questions about fees to contact Ms. Talerico in our school office at 403-777-8063 ext 0 between 8:15 am and 3:15 pm.
At our recent School Council meeting, school administration shared information related to our school development plan and school fees. Parents and guardians are invited to review the information (see attachment) and are encouraged to complete a quick survey related to this work. We value your input and want to have as many people as possible provide feedback through this very important engagement. The survey remains open until Friday March 21st at noon.

Speaking of engagement, it is that time of year again when Alberta Education seeks parent/guardian feedback about teaching and learning in our school and within the CBE. Families of students in grade 4 should have received an email from Ms. Bates on Friday and an email sent centrally from CBE last week which contained important links and information to an online survey. We urge all families with students in grade 4 to complete this survey as it informs our school development plan goals and strategies for the future.
Our grade 4 students hosted a fantastic ‘pink shirt day’ assembly last week. There were great connections made to our school development plan around vocabulary related to sense of belonging and wellbeing. In keeping with our kindness message, we are once again seeking donations for our veterans through our spring ‘March for Veterans’ food drive. For the next three weeks, we will be collecting non-perishable food and personal hygiene items as part of our efforts to support veterans. The following site indicates items in need: https://cavss.ca/needed-items-list. Our hope is to share kindness throughout the year in support of others. Please help us show our veterans how much we care.
Currently, there is considerable attention being given to students and the amount of screen time they engage in daily. Parents often ask, how much is too much? Is too much screen time harmful for children? Consistent answers to these questions can sometimes be difficult to reconcile. In an effort to shed light on this topic, CPS School Council has enlisted the help of Andrew Dutcher, MD who will be presenting an online workshop, 'Managing Screen Time', on the evening of Wednesday March 12 from 6:30-7:30pm. Please see the attached flyer for all the details.

Dates of significance for the beginning of March include:
March – Alberta Francophonie Month
March – Irish Heritage Month
March 8 – International Women’s Day
Fashion Friday this week will be ‘Decades Day’. Students are encouraged to come come dressed as someone from a past era.
Have a great week!
