March is Alberta Francophonie Month and Irish Heritage Month. March 8 marks International Women's Day, and Ramadan begins on March 10. There are many families in our school who will be observing these days in various ways. We are so proud of the diversity at Citadel Park School!
It was wonderful to see so may families attend our Pink Shirt Day assembly last week. The Grade 1 students did an amazing job sharing the message of kindness with everyone who attended. Their singing of "Just be Kind" was beautiful.
Our Grade 5 students attended the Calgary Hitmen "Be Brave" hockey game on Pink Shirt Day and had an amazing time. They listened to anti-bullying messages while watching the Hitmen win their game! Thank you again to our School Council and Parent Association for making these field trips possible.
The start of this week is looking chilly! Please ensure students are dressing for the weather. Students will be going outside for recess breaks if the temperature is above -20 degrees celcius (with the windchill).
We are sending another reminder about parking in and around the bus loop and parking lots. If buses are present in the bus loop please DO NOT enter that area to drop off your child(ren). Parents should not be entering the staff parking lot at any time. Additionally, please be thoughtful around your use of the gravel lot. We have staff arriving and departing the school throughout the day. Many of them use the gravel lot next to the school. It is challenging when they are unable to exit their parking stall because of vehicles blocking the access.
Our School Planning Engagement Survey will be open until March 22, 2024. Thank you to those of you who have already completed this 5-10 minute survey. This is your opportunity to share your thinking about our School Development Plan, and our School Budget and Fees. The survey has been translated into multiple languages which can be accessed by clicking in the top right corner of the page. Please click on the link below to complete this survey

Our March parent-teacher conferences are approaching quickly. Conference booking begins on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. More information about conference booking will be shared in next week's Week at a Glance. Conferences are an important part of the CBE reporting process to share information related to student achievement. We urge all families to attend. This term, families of students in grades 2,3 & 4 will have opportunity to participate in student led conferences. Families of students in grades K, 1 & 5 will be participating in 15 minute parent-teacher conferences. All students are invited to attend the conferences with their parent/guardian. Conferences occur on Thursday March 21 from 4:30-8:00 pm and on Friday March 22 from 8:30-1:00.
CPS School Council would like to remind families to mark their calendars for the upcoming virtual parent night.
Wednesday March 13 from 7:00-8:00pm via Zoom entitled:
”Meet Them Where They’re At: What Research Tells Us Works Best for Parenting in 2024”
Kids don’t come with instruction manuals, and many of us parent our children the way we were parented. But research in the past 20 years has changed our understanding of children’s needs as they develop. We know more now than ever before about how parents can maximize their child’s success and build strong, loving, and supportive relationships with kids by “meeting their children where they are at”.
Join registered psychologist, Tanya Keto (https://www.averyfsps.com/about-us) as she discusses:
• Why children behave the way they do and how parents can improve (or worsen) certain behaviours
• How emotion regulation develops and how parents can support the development of healthy regulation
• Healthy parenting styles to “meet your child where they are at” and why this is the key to strong, loving, and supportive relationships and setting their children up to be successful

We hope to ‘see’ you there!
