Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms! We hope you had an enjoyable day!

Alien In-line skating begins this week and runs for the next three weeks. The schedule will vary for each grade and class. While Alien In-line will provide all the necessary equipment, students are required to wear/bring their own socks. If students have a CAA approved helmet, they are welcome to bring it to use and labelling is recommended. Similarly, if students have their own elbow, wrist and/or knee pads that they use for rollerblading, they are also welcome to bring those as well. Once again, we want to thank our CPS School Council and Parent Association for financially supporting this residency.

Speaking of our CPS council, they will be hosting their May meeting this Wednesday May meeting this Wednesday May 14 at 6:30pm. Parents/guardians are invited to join the meeting either virtually using the link below, or in person in our Learning Commons.

With spring well underway and the sunshine upon us, we wanted to take a moment and remind everyone of the added congestion on our sidewalks. It is great to see so many students riding their bicycles and scooters to school each day and walking their bikes and scooters while on school property to promote safety for everyone. Similarly, now is a great time to remind students of traffic rules when riding or rolling. When in a crosswalk, students (and adults) should be disembarking and walking their bike or scooter to the other side. Following the ‘rules of the road’ ensures that cars, bikers and walkers can navigate our streets safely. Our four-way stop is a busy intersection so it is helpful to teach students to make eye contact with drivers prior to proceeding into the crosswalk. We have had a few ‘close calls’ in the past few weeks and we are urging everyone to move safely on the streets and sidewalks around our school.

Families should have received an email last week related to school fees. Fees for all field trips are now posted, even those that are upcoming (i.e. Kindergarten ~ Butterfield Acres). With no new fees being added prior to year end, now is a good time to log into your child’s MyCBE account to view and pay any outstanding fees. If you have questions about any fees, please contact Ms. Talerico in the school office between 9:00am-3:00 pm. CBE policy is that no student will be denied access to extra-curricular activities due to an inability to pay. If you have questions about fee payments, please email me directly at cledwards@cbe.ab.ca

There is no school for students this Friday May 16, 2025 as it is a professional learning day for staff. Teachers will be headed to Tsuu’tina Nation to learn more about their culture, traditions and people. We are excited for this learning opportunity connected to our CPS TRC Commitment:

We will cultivate indigenous ways of being, doing and knowing through task design that includes an emphasis on the recognition of historical and contemporary Indigenous accomplishments through arts, culture, game and sports.

Dates of significance recognized by CBE this week include:

  • May 10 – Bear Witness Day (Jordan’s Principle)
  • May 11 – Moose Hide Campaign Day
  • May 17- International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
  • May 19 – Victoria Day (no school for students)

Have a great week!
