As the kindergarten students are wondering… do April showers bring May flowers or does April/May snow make all things grow? The weather certainly has been unpredictable. We thank families for ensuring students are dressed for our ever changing conditions and for packing an extra set of clothes in backpacks.

The Kindergarten to Grade 2 Spring Concert is on Thursday May 9 - this week! Our students have been busy rehearsing for this performance and are excited to share their hard work with you. Students will perform in the afternoon at 1:30 pm and again in the evening at 6:30 pm. Tickets are not required for the afternoon performance. Thank you to all families who have completed the form to request tickets for the evening performance and provide us with useful information as we plan for this event. If you are a family of a Kindergarten to Grade 2 student and you haven't had a chance to complete the form yet, please do so as soon as possible. We will keep the form open until 12pm on TuesdayThe evening performance is filling up quickly. There will likely not be space for "walk-ins" on Thursday night. Here is a link to the form: COMPLETE FORM HERE. If you have requested tickets for the evening performance, you will check in at a table when you arrive on Thursday evening. Please ensure you only bring the number of people for whom you have requested tickets.

Monday May 6 is Bus Driver Appreciation Day. We are so fortunate at Citadel Park School to have such wonderful drivers ensuring our students are transported to and from school safely each day. Please encourage your bus riding child to acknowledge their bus driver on Monday and thank them for their work.

May 6- 10 is Mental Health Week. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA):

“Mental health” is a concept similar to “physical health”: it refers to a state of well-being. Mental health includes our emotions, feelings of connection to others, our thoughts and feelings, and being able to manage life’s highs and lows.”

This work ties directly to our School Development Plan goal related to well-being. Our aim throughout this year has been to create a strong sense of connection and belonging within our school. We are pleased to be working with our CPS School Council on our latest initiative related to this work, which is the purchase and installation of a buddy bench to support connection and compassion towards others who may feel alone or without a friend. We know that when students feel connected and have a sense of belonging, then compassion for others increases. We hope you will join us in acknowledging student and staff mental well being this week by wearing a hat for “Hats on for Mental Health” taking place this Wednesday May 8.

One way we connect with others is through our love of sports and activities. In support of two remaining Canadian teams in the NHL playoffs, Fashion Friday this week will be “Jersey Day”.

The CPS School Council and Parent Association is hosting their May meeting this Wednesday May 8 at 6:30 pm. This is a hybrid meeting and families are welcome to join either in-person or online. This month the staff from Kindergarten and grade 3 will be sharing during the ‘school report’ section of the meeting. Please use this link if you are joining online:
