Week at a Glance ~ March 2-6

The 2026 Paralympic Winter Games begin this week on Friday March 6! Another 9 days of viewing sportsmanship at its finest. Go Canada!

Speaking of March, only three weeks until Spring Break! With rising temperatures and all the snow that fell last week, we can anticipate some wet play areas around our school. Please ensure students have an extra set of clothes (pants and socks) in their backpacks.

March is also the time for parent-teacher conferencesConferences will take place on the evening of Thursday March 19 and during the day on Friday March 20. Sign up information and details will be sent in a message next week. We recognize that these interviews may conflict with the celebration of Eid. If there are scheduling challenges, please reach out to your child’s teacher directly.

Given the labour unrest at the beginning of the school year, many of our classes had to postpone field trips until the latter half of the school year. We are looking forward to the following on and off-site activities for our students:

  • Kindergarten – Butterfield Acres June 5 and 12
  • Grade 1 – The Calgary Zoo May 25
  • Grade 2 – Telus Spark April 15
  • Grade 3 – CPAWS (in-school) March 3 & Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller May 21
  • Grade 4 – Calgary Shepard Landfill April 6 and & The Sam Centre May 25
  • Grade 5 – Imagination Academy (in-school) March 10 & Telus Spark April 28

We are extremely fortunate that our amazing CPS School Council and Parent Association continue to see the value of these extracurricular activities and have dedicated funds set aside to cover the cost of bussing for our trips. Consequently, we will charge families only the cost of the event itself. Field trip costs across the grades will range from $15-$45 dollars. As these trips get closer, teachers will be communicating details with you and fees will be posted to your MyCBE account. We urge families to make payments as soon as fees appear. If you have any questions about your child’s participation in a field trip, please contact your child’s teacher. If you have questions about fees for field trips, please contact the school office at 403-777-8063 ext 0.

Volunteers are often required for off-site field trips. To be eligible to volunteer, parents/guardians must have a current, valid volunteer security clearance completed and on file with the Calgary Board of Education. Additionally, volunteers are required to complete the yearly volunteer registration form. If you have previously completed and were approved through the CBE e-Pic process, your clearance is good for five years from the date of confirmation. If you wish to complete the volunteer process, please visit the CBE website at: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/get-involved/volunteer/Pages/volunteer.aspx Please be aware that this process can take up to six weeks so please plan ahead.

Families are reminded that this Thursday, March 5 is Fun Lunch Day for those who ordered. Next Monday March 9 is our school ‘class photo’ day. Edge Imaging will be at the school to photograph all classes that day.

Speaking of dates, a save-the-date email was sent last week reminding families of the upcoming Parent Information Night being sponsored by CPS School Council. The topic for the March 11 session will be reading and how to support skill development in the home. Please seethe attached brochure for more information.
