Week at a Glance ~ May 4-8
|
The warmer weather is here and looks like it might last all week! If your child is sensitive to the sun, consider applying sunscreen at home each morning and sending them with a hat labelled with their name. Tomorrow is bus driver appreciation day! We are grateful to have such dedicated drivers look after the safety of close to 300 students each day on their way to and from school. If your child rides the bus, consider sharing a ‘thank you’ with your child’s driver tomorrow. Our Spring Concert this Thursday May 7. There will be performances at 10:30 am and 2:15 pm where our students in grades 1 and 2 as well as our grade 3-5 choir students will perform. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to each performance. Families are encouraged to attend and hear the beautiful voices of our students as they share the work they have been doing in music and choir club. Our Alien In-line skating residency will take place May 11-29. While CPS School Council is subsidizing a portion of this residency, there will be a $10.00 per child fee added to your MyCBE account. Looking ahead to that event, if students have a CAA approved helmet at home, they are strongly encouraged to have it at school for their skating time (a schedule will be shared by your child’s teacher later this week). Please ensure helmets are clearly labelled with your child’s name to avoid confusion. We need your help! Currently we are facing a budget shortfall for the year as we have many families with outstanding fees. These are fees for which students have already participated in a field trip or activity. To avoid fees moving to collections, we urge all families to pay outstanding fees as soon as possible. Fee payments can be made online through your MYCBE account or in the school office with a credit card during regular business hours. (Please note that fees cannot be paid at school between 11:00am and 12:30 pm as Ms. Danielle is out of the building and she is the only person authorized to use the debit machine.) For further information regarding MyCBE accounts, please visit: https://support.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe . For families on fee waivers, field trips and school-based activities are excluded from the waiver process, therefore some fees are still outstanding. If you have questions about your child’s fees or would like to discuss fee payment options, please reach out to school administration by telephone at 403-777-8063 ext. 0. It is that time of year when we want to say a huge THANK YOU for volunteering at CPS and helping to ensure our school runs smoothly. We greatly appreciate your help with Fun Lunches, in-school events, volunteering in the library, and accompanying us on field trips - we could not have had a successful school year without you! To formally say thanks, we will be hosting a Volunteer Tea on Friday, May 22nd from 9:00-10:15am. Please join us for some light refreshments and student performances in our gathering space. If you are able to attend, we ask that you RSVP to the link below by Friday, May 15th, 2026. We look forward to celebrating with you! Dates of Significance May 4 – Bus Driver Appreciation Day May 4-8 Mental Health Week including Hats for Mental Health May 5 – National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls May 10 – Mother’s Day Fashion Wednesday this week will be ‘Hats on for Mental Health’ - wear your favourite hat! The mental health of children and youth in Canada is a significant concern. By age 25, approximately 1 in 5 Canadians are diagnosed with a mental illness; the majority (70%) experience symptoms before age 18 (from the Canadian Institute for Health Information). Have a great week! The Admin Team |
