Week at a Glance ~ March 30-April 3

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a great spring break even if Calgary weather wasn’t very spring like! With more snow expected overnight, please ensure students are dressed for the weather. We will have to wait a few more days (weeks?) for some warmth and sunshine.

Just a reminder that there is no school this Friday April 3 as it is Good Friday. School will resume on Easter Monday, April 6.

Did you know there are only 61 more school days left in the school year? Every school day matters and consistent attendance supports healthy learning habits. The Alberta Education Act considers 10% or the equivalent of about 18 school days to constitute ‘chronic absenteeism’. If your child is going to be away for a considerable period over the next three months, please be sure to contact our office staff. Late arrivals also have a significant negative impact on learning. Being chronically late is disruptive for both the student and the rest of the class. Entering with their peer group provides structure and routine for students, elements which are critical for optimized learning. If your child is late, parents MUST sign in at the school office. Ensuring student safety is a joint responsibility and we appreciate all families who call/email with late and absence notifications.

As mentioned prior to the break, the next three months will see all grades of students participating in off-site school field trips. Fees will continue to be posted, and messages sent to families regarding due dates. Currently, outstanding school supply fees are posted. We urge families to log into Power School to pay fees as soon as possible.

We are looking forward to the following on and off-site activities for our students:

  • Kindergarten – Butterfield Acres June 5 and 12
  • Grade 1 – The Calgary Zoo May 25
  • Grade 2 – Telus Spark April 15
  • Grade 3 – Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller May 21
  • Grade 4 – Calgary Shepard Landfill April 6 and & The Sam Centre May 25
  • Grade 5 – Telus Spark April 28

If you have any questions about your child’s participation in a field trip, please contact your child’s teacher. If you have questions about fees for field trips, please contact the school office at 403-777-8063 ext 0.

Volunteers are often required for off-site field trips. To be eligible to volunteer, parents/guardians must have a current, valid volunteer security clearance completed and on file with the Calgary Board of Education. Additionally, volunteers are required to complete the yearly volunteer registration form. If you have previously completed and were approved through the CBE e-Pic process, your clearance is good for five years from the date of confirmation. If you wish to complete the volunteer process, please visit the CBE website at: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/get-involved/volunteer/Pages/volunteer.aspx

We hope that families have also ‘saved the date’ for our grade 1 and 2 Spring Concert taking place on May 7th. There will be two performances, one at 10:30am and another at 2:15pm. Please save the date and continue to read the weekly messages for future details. For any inquiries, please reach out to Ms. Rickard at aerickard@cbe.ab.ca.
