Week at a Glance ~ April 6-10

Happy Easter to those who celebrate! There is school tomorrow for students!

Thank you to families who had students dress for the weather last week. We urge all students to wear snow/rain gear as rain and flurries continue to be in the forecast and we anticipate muddy and wet fields from the melt. An extra pair of socks in backpacks is a great idea!

We are hoping the weather brings sunshine for Friday as we prepare for our Ani to Pisi enactment in support of education throughout reconciliaction. Ani to Pisi is a Blackfoot creation story about interconnectedness which uses the enactment of the spiderweb to describe how vibrations (celebrations or disturbances) in one part of the web, impact the entire web. We have been sharing the story of Ani to Pisi, have worked in our family groups to experience ‘vibrations’ and this week have been practicing our spider web movements and placements. We are pleased to be welcoming Elder Roy Bear Chief and Elder Hayden Melting Tallow along with drummers who will move us through the Ani to Pisi enactment. We are urging all students to wear an orange shirt on Friday to make the parts of the web cohesive. Our CBE communications department may be on hand to share in our celebration. We hope students will come home eager to share about their participation in such an event and what we can learn from the experience in support of our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation .

Our school field trips are underway. Tomorrow and Tuesday, our grade 4 students are heading to the Calgary Landfill where they will learn about waste and its impact on our environment. As previously mentioned, fees for field trips will be posted prior to the activity. We ask parents to ensure they log in to their MyCBE account and pay the fees as soon as possible. Bussing costs have been covered through the generous financial contributions of our CPS School Council and Parent Association. If you have questions about field trips, please contact your child’s teacher. If you have questions related to fees, please contact the school office.

Our spring concert is a month away and grade 1 and 2 students have been honing their musical skills and talents. The CPS grade 3-5 choir will also be presenting during the concert. We will run two performances – one in the morning at 10:30 am and one in the afternoon at 2:15 pm. We hope you save the date of May 7 and can join us for one of the performances

Our CPS School Council and Parent Association will be hosting their April meeting this Wednesday at 6:30 pm. Please join us online using the link below or in-person in the CPS Learning Commons.
