Week at a Glance ~ May 11-15

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms! We hope you enjoyed your day!

Thank you to all the families who came out for our Spring Concert last week! It was lovely to see so many audience members appreciating all the hard work our grade 1-2 students and grade 3-5 choir students have been engaged in over the past several months. Once again, thanks to Ms. Rickard and all the staff who supported our students in showcasing their musical and vocal talents.

Tomorrow is the start of our Alien Inline program which will run from May 11-29. Ms. Bates sent out a schedule last week indicating when individual classes will be participating. On those dates, we encourage everyone who has a CAA approved helmet to bring it to school for use during their lessons. While Alien Inline will provide all equipment, it is best if we can reduce the sharing of helmets where possible.

It is that time of year when we want to say a huge THANK YOU for volunteering at CPS and helping to ensure our school runs smoothly. We greatly appreciate your help with Fun Lunches, in-school events, volunteering in the library, and accompanying us on field trips - we could not have had a successful school year without you! To formally say thanks, we will be hosting a Volunteer Tea on Friday, May 22nd from 9:00-10:15am. Please join us for some light refreshments and student performances in our gathering space. If you are able to attend, we ask that you RSVP to the link below by Friday, May 15th, 2026. RSVP HERE

Speaking of volunteers we are looking for some parents/family members to help install our bison on the fence surrounding the staff parking lot – see the link below. The Blank Page artists are coming to the school on May 22 at 10am to start the installation. We are looking for approximately 20 volunteers to help with installation. We will need you to use wire cutters to cut small pieces of wire and then use plyers to attach the bison to the fence. It will take a few hours to get them all installed. We recognize this is the same day as the Volunteer Tea. If you're attending the Tea, you are more than welcome to help afterwards!  If you are able to help, please sign up! If you have wire cutters or plyers, please bring them along. If you are unable to help but have a pair of wire cutters or plyers we could borrow, please email Alison Bates-Church at albates@cbe.ab.ca. We ask that you label these so we can get them back to you!

At this time, we are experiencing small declines in our enrolment due to movement within our system to alterative programs and with families who are moving residences. If you know your current K-4 child will not be returning to CPS next year, please contact the office either by phone at 403-777-8063 ext 0 or via email at Citadel@cbe.ab.ca to share that information. Even small variations in enrolment can have an impact on budget and we want to ensure we are planning for accurate numbers in our fall classroom organization.

Grade 4 and 5 students will be completing the Our School Survey in the next few weeks. This information is used to inform school development planning as well as provides information for us to use when planning for the school year.

Please be reminded that there is no school for students this coming Friday, May 15 as it is a professional learning day. Teachers will continue our learning about Indigenous ways of being, knowing, doing and belonging through programming at The Confluence. There is also no school Monday May 18 as it is a statutory holiday.

Other Important Dates:

May 15 – International Day of Families

May 17 – International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, Biphopia

We have many families who continue to have outstanding fees. To avoid fee payments moving to collections, we urge all families to ensure they have paid any fees posted in your MyCBE account. Many of these fees are for field trips/guest speakers/art activities for which students have already participated. Currently, outstanding fees are having a significant negative impact on our school budget as we have had to pay service providers for these activities that have already occurred. Please help us balance our budget by paying outstanding fees as soon as possible. Should you have questions about fees, please contact the school office during regular business hours.

Have a great week!
