Week at a Glance ~ February 9-11

Go Team Canada!

What an exciting time of year – the Winter Olympics are here! For the duration of the games, we encourage students to show their Canadian pride by wearing our red and white! (As an aside, February 15 is Canadian National Flag Day so be sure to wear your red and white!)  We have a number of classes involved in using the Olympics as a lens for learning. A big shout out to Ms. Coen and Ms. Maclellan for creating winter Olympic style physical education games for students to challenge themselves over the next few weeks. Students will engage in adapted versions of sledge hockey, luge, bobsleigh, biathlon, torch relay and skeleton! Be sure to ask your children about what they are learning about winter sports!

Please remember that it is short week of school this week! There is no school for students this Thursday/Friday February 13, 14 due to teacher’s convention. Similarly, there is no school for students on Monday February 16 due to Family Day. We hope everyone will have some time to enjoy watching the Olympics and be outside enjoying some of our fabulous weather.

As Valentine’s Day falls on a non-school day for students, participating students will have opportunity to share their Valentine’s Day cards on Wednesday this week. Please avoid sending edible treats to schools as we are unable to share those with students.

Our grade 1 students will be hosting our Pink Shirt Day assembly on Wednesday February 25 in the morning. A confirmed time will be sent in next week's message.

CPS School Council is hosting their Valentine’s Day Dance this Wednesday February 11. See previous commercial messages sent regarding tickets and detailed information. They will also be hosting their February monthly meeting on Wednesday February 18. More details will be included in next week’s message. Lastly, they are hosting Popcorn Day on Thursday February 19.

A few reminders for families:

  • Fees (bus, lunchroom and school fees) are now posted in your MyCBE accounts. Please ensure your payments are up to date.
  • Registration – students in grades K-4 returning to CPS next year will automatically to be ‘rolled over’, meaning there is no new registration form to complete. If you know your child will be moving on to a new school, please advise us as soon as possible so we can share that information with the receiving school.
  • Arbour Lake School is hosting their Open House on Thursday February 26, a message for which was sent home to grade 5 families last week. If you know your child will not be attending Arbour Lake School for grade 6, please let us know as soon as possible so we may redirect their enrolment.
  • Report cards will go live on Tuesday February 24. They will be viewable through your MyCBE account. Printed copies of report cards are not sent home from the school.

Have a great short week! Go TEAM CANADA!
