Week at a Glance ~ October 19-23

We are grateful to our staff who worked diligently Friday to get our new grade 1 classroom set up, our two grade 5 classrooms switched and the move of one of our Kindergarten classrooms into room 12.  We are looking forward to welcoming students into their new spaces.

As many of you will have noted, City of Calgary Parking Authority were here last week. We work collaboratively with them and the Calgary Police Service to ensure all areas around our school are safe for students. This is a reminder that street parking on Citadel Drive NW north of the school includes a ‘hug ‘n go” zone. Cars should not be parked and left unattended in this area. Parents/guardians have previously been ticketed for various offences including jaywalking, blocking driveways and speeding through the playground zone. We would like to remind families to always choose safety over convenience.

Relatedly, we have noticed an increase in the number of students arriving late to school over the past couple of weeks. We recognize that traffic and parking can cause delays and we urge families to leave with sufficient time to allow students to be in line at their doors at 8:43am. Families are also reminded that students who arrive after 8:43am need to be signed in by a parent/guardian in the office.

Important Dates:

October 19 – PD Day (no school for students)

October 17-22  - Secret Path Week

October 18  - Persons Day

October 20 – Dussehra

October 22 – Take Me Outside Day

October 22 – Fun Lunch

Our grade 2 and grade 5 students will have opportunity to participate in presentations from Artfelt Studios and Trickster respectively. We would like to remind families that fees associated with presentations and field trips need to be paid prior to students participating in activities. All fees are posted in your MyCBE account. Should you have any questions about fees, please contact Danielle in our school office during regular business hours.

Speaking of field trips, we would like to remind parents/guardians that to volunteer on a CBE school field trip or school related activity that a current, valid security clearance is required. Applications for security clearances are completed online and can take up to six weeks to complete. Additionally, parents are required to have their Annual Volunteer Form completed. This form is accessible in your child’s MyCBE account. Questions about volunteer requirements can be directed to Danielle in the school office.

Gord Downie and the story of Chanie Wenjak are the foundation of Secret Path Week, "an invitation to answer Gord Downie’s call to action, to Do Something to move reconciliation forward". In honour of Secret Path Week fashion Friday this week will be wear purple.

Have a great week!
