Hello CPS Families, Hopefully families were able to enjoy some fall outdoor activities this weekend despite the weather. The air is certainly crisp in the morning and as such, students are encouraged to be dressed all types of weather for play time and possible physical education classes being held outside. With warm up happening throughout the day, there is plenty of opportunity for coats and hoodies, even hats and mittens to end up in our ‘lost but not yet found’. Please consider labelling all your child’s belongings so that they may be reunited with their human! We want to express our gratitude to the Events Committee of the Citadel Park School Parent Association. Families were able to enjoy some great outdoor play time with music and food trucks last Friday. Events such as these don’t happen without the commitment of our parent volunteers! If you wish to volunteer at CPS in the future or for any council/association sponsored events, please note that you are required to have a current, valid police security clearance on file as well as complete the annual volunteer registration (can be completed in the School Engage tab within your MyCBE account). If you have questions about volunteering, please contact our office administrative staff by phone during regular business hours at 403-777-8063 ext 0. To be aware of school council sponsored events where fundraising occurs, parents must opt in to receive commercial messages. This is part of Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Beginning this week, students in grades 1 to 5 will complete mandatory literacy and numeracy assessments prescribed by Alberta Education (Kindergarten will complete similar assessments in January 2027). It is important to note that these universal screeners do not replace day-to-day teacher observations and classroom assessment and do not have any impact on formal reporting processes such as report cards. Rather, the results of universal screeners help inform planning for next steps such as targeted interventions or instructional planning and are not used to determine grades. It is important to note that while universal screeners assess students’ foundational skills in literacy and numeracy skills, they are not necessarily aligned with the curriculum. It wouldn't be a weekly message from CPS without some mention of our traffic/parking situation! Please note that the entrance to our bus loop is not a drop off area - this is a roadway! Parents should be pulling into a location curb side to drop off students. When families argue with us about moving to an alternate location, it makes everyone uncomfortable and for sure sends the wrong message to our students about safety.
