Week at a Glance ~ September 11-18

Hello CPS Families,

What a beautiful weekend - we hope everyone was able to enjoy some sunshine and outdoor time!

In honour of International Dot Day, which occurs this year on Friday September 15, the focus for Fashion Friday will be polka dots! The book “The Dot” tells the story of a young student believing they are not an artist. It shows what is possible when we are courageous in our thinking and when we are supported in pursuits we perceive as difficult. This is the 20th anniversary of Dot Day and we hope it sparks a great conversation about courage and the power of positive thinking.

We wish to thank parents/guardians for their adherence to the parking and traffic rules in and around the school. As a reminder, the HUG and GO zone is in effect starting at 8 am each day. The signage clearly indicates this is a ‘no parking zone’ so please do not park and leave your vehicle unattended in this area. When we all follow the rules, the hug and go zone works wonderfully in keeping students safe and traffic moving in the morning.

Our annual Terry Fox Run is coming up next week. Ms. Harvey is still looking for a number of volunteers to help direct students around the course. If you have a valid police security clearance on file and can spare some time on Wednesday September 20 between 10:30 am and 12:00 pm please email Ms. Harvey at llharvey@cbe.ab.ca . Online donations (we are unable to accept cash) can be made at: https://schools.terryfox.ca/CitadelPark

A gentle reminder that if your child has any health related concerns (i.e. asthma with a puffer and/or epipen, requires medication during the day, seizures etc) that a yearly Student Health Plan and Emergency Protocol must be on file at the school. Thank you to those families who have already submitted the forms. Should this information pertain to your child, please complete the relevant forms and return them to the school no later than this Friday September 15th. Should you have any questions, please contact Danielle or Antonia in the main office.

CBE uses digital documentation through SchoolEngage to have parents complete school forms. SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc. You should have received an email from CBE directing you to complete/confirm the following forms online by Monday September 18:

  • Demographic Verification – 2023-24 This form includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
  • Annual Authorization - 2023-24 – This form provides consent for school and district use of personal information.

These forms need to be updated annually to confirm funding from Alberta Education.

As part of our annual safety practices, we are required to practice a fire drill prior to September 30. Students are being prepared for these drills by their classroom teachers. We hope to complete this drill prior to the end of this week.

Have a great week!  The Admin Team
